The Cats are cursed in Indianapolis. I thought it was just me but it is well documented.
Lost in 2015 to Wisconsin, lost (destroyed) by Duke in 2018, lost to Kansas in 2020, lost to St. Peters in 2022 and now add a loss to Michigan State in 2022. Thank goodness the Final Four doesn’t return here until 2026.
The Cats shot 38.6% from the floor and 7-for-25 from 3-point. They were out-rebounded by the Spartans. It was a rare night for CJ Fredrick and Antonio Reeves as neither could catch fire.
The star of the night was Oscar Tshiebwe who finished with 22 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks. Cason Wallace contributed 14 points, five assists and eight assists.
The lead was traded throughout regulation with a tie score of 62 at the buzzer initiating the first overtime.
The turning point occurred when Tshiebwe was called for an illegal screen, adding his fifth foul to the count. The Spartans once again tied the game and the Cats couldn’t get anything going in the second overtime without him.
The Cats have a busy week with a game at Rupp on Thursday and traveling to play Gonzaga on Sunday.
No need to get worried at this point. It’s early and there is plenty of ball to be played.
Please note…I have made my last trip to Indy.
