What did Kentucky commit Ty Bryant of Lexington think about the news Sunday that UK coach Mark Stoops had a $9 million per year contract now that has been extended through the 2030 season?

“It makes me feel good,” said the Frederick Douglass standout. “I knew he was going to stay (at Kentucky) but I feel good knowing I am definitely walking in and the coach I committed to is going to be there.”

“I know some recruits who have committed and then the staff leaves. I am glad the coaches that I committed to are going to be around for my career.”

Stoops now has a contract extension through the 2030 season and ranks behind only Alabama’s Nick Saban, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Georgia’s Kirby Smart, LSU’s Brian Kelly and Michigan State’s Mel Tucker in his annual compensation package as of today even though several other coaches likely will get nice raises once the season ends.

Bryant knows if UK athletics director Mitch Barnhart is going to pay Stoops that much, the football team is going to get more funding, too.

“I can’t wait to see what we get,” Bryant said. “Kentucky’s facilities are nice but compared to some others in the SEC…. hopefully we will get a little upgrade.”

  1. Little does Ty know that Mitch had a yardsale last summer and sold all of the weightlifting equipment to fund Stoop’s contract. The buyer decided to lease it back to us out of the goodness of his heart. He wanted to be sure we were still strong enough to beat Vandy. I guess you call that a bad investment in a bullshitt market.
