The Lyon County Lyons appear ready for the start of their season Tuesday night. The Lyons got big games from Travis Perry and Brady Shoulders as they took down Louisville Trinity 69-67 in the Zipzone Express Tip Off Classic at Martin County High School.
The preseason scrimmage was a battle of two teams ranked in the Top 10 by the state’s coaches in the recent Herald-Leader preseason poll. The Lyons were ranked #10 while the Shamrocks were ranked third in the poll.
The Lyons had a double-digit first-half lead and then held off a late-game rally from Trinity.
Lyon County took a 17-11 lead after the opening quarter thanks to a combined 14 points from Perry and Shoulders. That lead would grow to 36-25 at the break. The Lyons hit six three-pointers in the opening half, three from Travis Perry and three from Bradin Nelson.
Trinity held the Lyons to just three third-quarter field goals as the Shamrocks cut the lead to 46-40. The Lyons would then knock down free throws coming down the stretch to pick up the scrimmage win.
Travis Perry led the Lyon effort with 27. Brady Shoulders added 23. Bradin Nelson also hit double figures with 11. Jack Reddick finished with 7 points for Lyon County.
Carson Waddle led Trinity with 18 points.
The Lyons will open the season Tuesday night when they host Ohio County.
