One of Kentucky’s top commits in the 2023 recruiting class is Nashville receiver Shamar Porter. He was an early commitment even though he also had offers from Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Penn State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Cincinnati, West Virginia, and others.
The 6-3, four-star receiver is a consensus top five player in Tennessee and one of the nation’s top 30 receivers in some recruiting rankings.
He’s one of the recruits some have worried about possibly changing his commitment but he was back in Lexington on Saturday to watch the Wildcats beat Louisville and had a chance to talk to offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello and receivers coach Scott Woodward.
“Just talked to coach Scangarello a little bit to make sure we have a good connection,” Porter said before news broke that Scangarello was being let go by coach Mark Stoops. “I talked to him at the game. He’s been touching base and keeping me updated on life and family when we talk. He is somebody I am excited to play for.”
He has friends on almost every SEC team, including freshman Barion Brown and twins Destin and Keaton Wade at Kentucky — three four-star recruits all from Nashville.
“I talk to Barion and he lets me know about how things are in practice. He shows me his (game) plan, his schemes, and some plays for me to get a feel for what the games will be like next year,” Porter said. “I am excited.”

I hope this young man stays committed. Scangarello’s firing may change his thinking.
