The Lyon County Lyons Friday night did just what a ‘favored’ team is supposed to do. The defending 2nd Region champions hit 5th District rival Crittenden County with an early 17-0 run as the Lyons rolled to an 85-38 win over the Rockets in Jason White Gymnasium.
The game was tied early at 2-2 and at 4-4 and then the roof came down on the Rockets. With Travis Perry, Brady Shoulders, Jack Reddick, and Bray Kirk all having big starts, the next thing Crittenden County knew was the score was 21-4 and the beginning of a long night was underway.
By the end of the quarter, the lead was up to 32-7, and things did not get much better for the Rockets in the second. With the Lyons controlling the boards and forcing Crittenden County into turnovers on the offensive end, the Lyons were able to get runouts for easy baskets as the lead grew to 37 points by the end of the half at 53-16.
With the running clock in play at the beginning of the second half, the rest of the game played out quickly. The only suspense of the second half was whether or not Travis Perry would climb another spot on the state’s all-time scoring list. That did happen when Perry hit his third 3-pointer of the second half, giving him 27 points on the night, 3,328 for his career, putting him ahead of Taylor County legend Clem Haskins, who finished with 3,325.
Lyon County would lead 76-27 after the third quarter.
Reserves would see much of the action for both teams in the final eight minutes. Crittenden’s backups scored the final nine points of the game.
Travis Perry had another big night for the Lyons, finishing with 27 points. Brady Shoulders hit for 20. Jack Reddick ended up with 18, while Bray Kirk also made it to double-figures with 12.
For Crittenden County, Travis Champion was the leading scorer with 13. Preston Morgeson added 10 points for the Rockets.
Lyon County improves to 4-1 with the win. They host Christian County Saturday night.
Crittenden County falls to 2-4. The Rockets are on the road Tuesday night at Union County.
