With their recent struggles on the court over the past several seasons and a lost season to the COVID pandemic just two years ago, Saturday was a nice early Christmas present for the Fort Campbell Lady Falcons. With their defense leading the way, the Lady Falcons cruised to a 36-11 win over Cloverport Saturday afternoon on post.
The Lady Falcon defense held the Lady Aces scoreless in the first quarter and the without a field goal for the entire second half.
Even though the Lady Falcons shut out Cloverport in the opening quarter, the game stayed closed until late in the third quarter, when the Fort Campbell offense got some rhythm going.
Fort Campbell led 4-0 after the first quarter, with the lead at 10-7 as the two teams headed into the locker room.
The Lady Falcons extended the lead to 16-10 in the latter part of the third quarter and then they cut lose a barrage on the Lady Aces. Fort Campbell would scored the next twenty points of the game as their defense and rebounding created runout opportunities for the Lady Falcons.
The lead was 21-10 after the third and was at 36-10 when Cloverport converted a free throw to stop the run at 20 points. Fort Campbell got big plays from Charlize Cruz and Rosella Rajj during the run.
Rosella Rajj finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds for the Lady Falcons. Charlize Cruz added 13 for the Lady Falcons.
Campbell Moore scored 6 for Cloverport. Alexis Hurt added the other five points for the Lady Aces.
The story of the game was the shooting for the Lady Aces, as Cloverport was 0-25 from the field in the second half and 3-40 for the game. Fort Campbell connected on 16 of 41 shooting.
Fort Campbell improves to 1-3 on the season. The Lady Falcons are back on the road Thursday taking on Community Christian.
