Long Range Lady Cardinals Snap Losing Streak to Trigg

The Livingston Central Lady Cardinals used some unexpected sharp shooting to beat Trigg County 54-41 Friday and end a 10-game losing streak to the Lady Wildcats.

Livingston came into the district contest having made seven 3-pointers in their first three games. They hit six in the first half against Trigg as they outscored the Lady Wildcats 23-10 to build a 31-17 lead by halftime.

While Livingston was connecting from long range, Trigg County hit just 3-of-21 from behind the arc.

Livingston Central was also able to keep Trigg off the glass effectively, outrebounding the Lady Wildcats 35-26.

Still up by 14 points in the second half, Trigg County coach Greg Stephens was assessed a pair of technical fouls for arguing a block/charge call that went against his team and was tossed from the contest.

Trigg County cut the deficit to 42-34 on back-to-back 3-pointers by Tajah Grubbs and Kara Hyde. But Livingston had the answer as Emersyn Ramage hit a bucket and Hadley Hargrove drilled a 3-pointer to push the lead back to 13 points with 4:25 left. Trigg would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Livingston Central hit 7-of-12 from 3-point range which overcame a 15-of-31 performance at the free throw line.

Trigg County shot 31-percent from the field and has not shot better than 32-percent in its three losses.

Maggie Downey and Victoria Joiner each scored 14 points with Joiner adding 12 rebounds. Ramage scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Olivia Noffsinger led Trigg County with 20 points. Kara Hyde added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Trigg County will host Lyon County Tuesday.
