After a lopsided win over Dawson Springs on Friday, Caldwell County’s girls were hoping to piece together a win streak.

But Murray had other plans. The black-and-gold Lady Tigers held off a late charge by the blue-and-gold Lady Tigers Saturday afternoon in Princeton for a 46-40 triumph.

Junior Mylee Smith and senior Alyssa Daughrity each had double-doubles for Murray, which is now 2-3.

Smith had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Daughrity tallied 10 points and 16 boards. Kendyll English added another 13 points for Murray.

Meanwhile, Caldwell got 17 points from senior A.J. Hollowell. But Caldwell’s girls had difficulty matching their success from long range that they enjoyed the previous night in a 73-29 victory over Dawson Springs.

KeDarriah Thompson pulled down 12 rebounds for Caldwell.

Caldwell (2-4) led 12-11 after one quarter before Murray scored the final two baskets of the first half to get to the break with a 20-16 lead.

Murray never trailed again — and led by as much as eight points — but could never quite shake Caldwell either.

Hollowell had 11 of her 17 points in the final frame to keep her team within striking distance, but Murray held off its hosts every time they got close.

Caldwell continues a busy schedule on Monday with a trip to Livingston Central. Caldwell then goes to Hopkinsville on Tuesday before traveling to Christian County on Thursday.
