With two of their top-three scorers out of action due to injury, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers received zero sympathy from hot-shooting Union County in a 73-43 defeat on Saturday.

The Bravettes connected on 14 three-pointers to improve to 7-2 and send the Lady Tigers to their second defeat in three outings.

Union County led 13-2 after back-to-back three-pointers by Lillian Goodloe, but Hopkinsville’s Kahtahvia Fleming answered with a three and a pair of free throws to cut it to 14-7 after one quarter.

The Lady Tigers closed to within a basket early in the second quarter on a three by TaRia Sharber.  However, a 20-6 run provided the knock-out punch for the Bravettes, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers on the way to eleven points for Madison Morris.

A 13-2 spurt for Union County built the lead to 27 points after a Goodloe three-pointer.  Union’s Paige Steward answered Fleming’s three-pointer in kind, and the Bravettes had a 33-point cushion with a quarter to play.

Hopkinsville opened the final frame on a 12-1 run, fueled by nine points for Fleming, to make things more respectable.  But Goodloe drilled the last two of her five three-pointers to help Union outscore the Lady Tigers by eight the rest of the way.

The Lady Tigers slipped to 2-5 and don’t play again until a trip to McLean County on January 6.

Fleming finished with 20 for the Lady Tigers, followed by Sharber with 12.

Morris connected on five three-pointers to finish with 22, Goodloe had 21, and Steward scored 11.
