
With two of their top-three scorers out of action due to injury, the Hopkinsville Lady Tigers received zero sympathy from hot-shooting Union County in a 73-43 defeat on Saturday.
The Bravettes connected on 14 three-pointers to improve to 7-2 and send the Lady Tigers to their second defeat in three outings.
Union County led 13-2 after back-to-back three-pointers by Lillian Goodloe, but Hopkinsville’s Kahtahvia Fleming answered with a three and a pair of free throws to cut it to 14-7 after one quarter.
The Lady Tigers closed to within a basket early in the second quarter on a three by TaRia Sharber. However, a 20-6 run provided the knock-out punch for the Bravettes, highlighted by a pair of three-pointers on the way to eleven points for Madison Morris.
A 13-2 spurt for Union County built the lead to 27 points after a Goodloe three-pointer. Union’s Paige Steward answered Fleming’s three-pointer in kind, and the Bravettes had a 33-point cushion with a quarter to play.
Hopkinsville opened the final frame on a 12-1 run, fueled by nine points for Fleming, to make things more respectable. But Goodloe drilled the last two of her five three-pointers to help Union outscore the Lady Tigers by eight the rest of the way.
The Lady Tigers slipped to 2-5 and don’t play again until a trip to McLean County on January 6.
Fleming finished with 20 for the Lady Tigers, followed by Sharber with 12.
Morris connected on five three-pointers to finish with 22, Goodloe had 21, and Steward scored 11.
