Christian County rode a hot start — and 32 points from Anaysia Bagwell — to victory in the opening game of the 2022 West Kentucky Hoops Classic.
The Lady Colonels built a double-digit lead in the first quarter, then held off a late Lyon County charge to leave Princeton with a 58-52 win Thursday afternoon.
Lyon (2-6) actually outscored Christian 47-43 over the final three stanzas after falling behind 15-5 after one quarter.
But the Lady Lyons just couldn’t make enough shots down the stretch to complete their comeback bid after pulling to within 47-44 midway through the fourth period.
Meanwhile, Bagwell was doing her part, and then some, for Christian County.
The freshman guard was 10 of 20 from the field and made three of her 10 3-point attempts in the contest. Bagwell was nine of 15 at the free throw line and also recorded five steals and four rebounds.
Sophomore NeVeah Day backed Bagwell with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds along with three steals. D’Ebony Anderson had six points and nine rebounds.
Senior Ella Defew had a double-double for Lyon with 12 points and 11 boards. She also recorded four steals. Gracen Wynn added 10 points and four assists. Trinity Taylor had 13 rebounds to go with six points, helping Lyon outrebound Christian 51-48. Piper Cotham had nine points and five rebounds.
