If Mother Nature had just cooperated, there may well have been a new all-time leading scorer in Western Kentucky high school basketball history Friday night. The Lyon County Lyons had been scheduled to take on Caldwell County in the West Kentucky Hoops Classic, and there was a good chance that Lyon County’s Travis Perry would have taken another step up the all-time scoring ladder in Kentucky high school basketball history, and that step would have involved passing a legendary player from Hopkins County.

As things stand now, Perry has 3,549 points for his career. The total puts him in 5th place in career scoring. Next in front of him is former Earlington standout Harry Todd. Todd scored 3,567 during his time at the small school in southern Hopkins County to hold 4th place on the scoring list.

With Perry averaging nearly 30 points a game, it figures that he would pass Harry Todd the next time the Lyons take the court.

Due to the winter storm canceling Lyon County’s game with Caldwell County Friday night, the next chance for that to happen will come up Tuesday when the Lyons take on Covington Holy Cross in the White, Greer, & Maggard Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic,

Third place on the all-time scoring list is held by Cameron Justice, of Knott County Central, with 3,587 points.
