Lady Lyons Roll Into Semifinals at Bourbon County Tourney

Lyon County senior Ella Defew had 17 points and was named Player of the Game on Tuesday after leading the Lady Lyons into the semifinals of the Kelly Holiday Classic in Paris.

Lyon’s girls used a big second quarter to gain the upper hand against Harrison County and went on to post a 58-37 victory in opening round action. Next up is host Bourbon County in the semifinals at 5:15 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday.

Bourbon (5-6) beat Woodford County 53-39 in its first round matchup.

The Lady Lyons (3-6) trailed 9-7 after one quarter against Harrison (2-7). But Lyon outscored the Fillies 23-5 in the second period to get to halftime with a 30-14 advantage.

The Lady Lyons quickly extended the margin to 20 points in the third quarter and took a 46-26 lead to the final stanza.

Besides the big game from Defew, Lyon got 13 points from Trinity Taylor and another eight from Gracen Wynn. Piper Cotham and Courtney Collins each had seven points.

Baylee Hudgins was the only Fillies player to score in double figures with 10 points. Caroline VanHook had 12 rebounds to go with nine points.

With a win over Bourbon, Lyon’s girls would advance to Thursday’s 5:15 championship game. With a loss in the semifinals, the Lady Lyons would play in the third-place game Thursday at 3:30.
