
The Hopkinsville Tigers opened the City of Middletown Holiday Classic at Eastern High School on Tuesday, with Antonio Williams leading five Tigers in double figures on the way to a 90-72 victory over Atherton.
The Tigers picked up their first win in their last three games to improve to 4-6 and will face DeSales on Wednesday.
Williams posted 22 points to pace the Tigers, including seven in the first quarter to give Hoptown an early 19-18 advantage. Ben Wilson got off to a good start for Atherton with nine in the opening frame.
Hoptown’s KeiMarion Smith drilled a pair of three-pointers and scored eight points in the second quarter. Daisjaun Mercer got going for the Tigers as well, scoring eight of his 14 points for a 42-34 score at the half.
Hopkinsville posted 24 points in each quarter of the second half to continue to pull away. Williams added seven points in the third and sixth in the fourth, and Bubba Leavell put up half of his 12 points in the third quarter.
Donovan Bizzle scored ten in the fourth on the way to 18 for Atherton. Wilson posted nine points in the first and the third to finish with a game-high 25.
Smith followed Williams with 18 for the Tigers, Mercer scored 14 with eight rebounds and four assists, and Leavell scored 12 with four assists. Isaiah Manning collected seven rebounds and scored 10 points, and Jacob Gavin tracked down eight boards.
