The Lyon County Lyons are headed for the semifinals of a second straight prestigious holiday tournament. The Lyons used a strong finish and a big night from junior Travis Perry Wednesday night to get past Ballard 86-80 in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket of the WGM Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic High School.
The Lyons entered the final quarter trailing Ballard by one at 63-62. But just like they did the night before against Covington Holy Cross, the Lyons played a big 4th quarter, outscoring the Bruins 24-17 to take the six-point win.
After nearly finishing with a triple-double against Holy Cross, Travis Perry torched Ballard for 37 points, including 5 of 10 from behind the 3-point line. Perry added 7 rebounds and 7 assists to his totals.
With his 37 points, Perry now has 3,613 for his career. He passes Camron Justice, of Knott County Central, for third place on the all-time scoring list. Perry is now just 34 points behind Charlie Osborne, of Flat Gap, for second place on the all-time list.
Brady Shoulders added 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. The ‘third amigo’, Jack Reddick chipped in with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Lukas Breedlove finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lyons came out firing from the beginning, but so did the Bruins as it looked as if they would test all the scoreboard lights. Lyon County led 28-26 after one. The Bruins came back to tie the game at 44-44 at the break.
Ballard outscored Lyon 19-18 in the third quarter to take a one-point lead into the final eight minutes, but it would be a lead they would not be able to hang on to.
A couple of noteworthy stats were the Lyons outrebounding Ballard 35-30 and having 20 assists to the Bruins’ 14.
Ballard was led by Gabe Sisk with 27 points. Miles Franklin added 19.
Lyon County improves to 11-3 with the win. The Lyons will take on host Lexington Catholic in a winner’s bracket semifinal on Thursday.

How many points does he need to catch Coleman? And does he have enough games left?
