A Christmas holiday filled with snow and extreme cold weather isn’t going to do many teams favors when they return to the hardwood this week.

Todd County Central found itself idling a bit early before pulling away for a 67-37 win over Heritage Christian Academy Wednesday in the first game of the Battle at the Border sponsored by United Southern Bank.

Both teams began the matinee slowly although the Rebels pushed out to a 10-3 lead. HCA would battle back to tie the game at 12-12.

A steal and bucket by Treyvon Foster just ahead of the quarter horn gave the Rebels a 16-12 lead. It was the catalyst in a 14-1 run that put Todd County up 26-13.

Heritage Christian would trim the halftime lead to 32-20 but a 22-6 start to the second half was enough to secure the Rebels’ spot in Thursday’s semifinals.

Jamison Glass scored 10 of his 25 points in the third quarter that sparked the 22-point outburst.

Todd Central also got 13 points from Hayden Strader, who knocked down one of the Rebels’ six 3-pointers and was named the Player of the Game.

Carlos Robles had 14 points and Jason Leek added 13 as the Warriors fell to 2-6 against KHSAA teams this year.

Todd County Central will play Central Magnet in Thursday’s semifinals. The Tigers rallied to beat Hopkins County Central 62-60. HCA will play Hopkins Central in the consolation bracket.
