
Central Magnet School of Murfreesboro overcame an 11-point first half deficit to rally for a 62-60 win over Hopkins County Central Wednesday at Todd County Central’s Battle at the Border sponsored by United Southern Bank.
Both teams hit nine 3-pointers – Central Magnet used them to take the lead and Hopkins Central used them to try and rally late.
The threes weren’t falling for the Tigers from Tennessee early as Hopkins Central built a 17-6 lead after one quarter.
Mason Brown scored seven of his team-high 19 points in the second quarter as Central Magnet clawed back to within 33-29 by halftime.
Mac Martin drilled a trio of 3-pointers in the third quarter as Central Magnet took the lead for the first time.
Drake Skeen scored nine points in the fourth quarter as the Storm tried to come back. He finished with a game-high 20 points.
Hopkins Central saw two shots to tie fall short in the final 26 seconds.
Brown led Central Magnet with 19 points and earned Player of the Game honors. Martin added 17 points.
Joining Skeen in double figures for Hopkins County Central was Trevahn Jones with 12 points.
Central Magnet will play Todd County Central in Thursday’s semifinal at 7:30.
Hopkins County Central will play Heritage Christian Academy Thursday at 3:00.
