Caldwell County’s girls did not leave the Murray Bank Lady Tiger Christmas Classic empty-handed.

The Lady Tigers concluded their stay in the Murray High School event with a 45-40 victory over Livingston Central Friday in the seventh-place contest.

Caldwell (4-8) had dropped its first two tilts on Thursday against Paducah Tilghman and Murray.

Things didn’t look good on Friday when Caldwell fell behind 15-4 in the first quarter.

Livingston (5-6) led 15-6 after one quarter, but managed just one free throw in the second period. That helped the Lady Tigers rally to tie things 16-16 at the break.

The game remained tight throughout the second half. Neither side led by more than five points.

Caldwell got to the fourth quarter with a 28-26 lead, but the contest was tied again, 35-35, with under a minute and a half to play.

However, a steal by A.J. Hollowell led to a 3-pointer in transition by Med Thomas at the 1:11 mark that put Caldwell in front to stay, and the Lady Tigers made enough free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Hollowell scored eight of her 12 points in the second half while Thomas scored all of her 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Presley McKinney added nine points and six rebounds for Caldwell.

Victoria Joiner had a double-double for Livingston with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Maggie Downey added 10 points while Emersyn Ramage had eight points and 11 boards for the Lady Cardinals.

It was Caldwell’s second win over Livingston this season. The Lady Tigers have taken four straight from the Lady Cardinals and 10 of the last 11 matchups.
