Third Quarter the Difference as Colonels Fall to Pearl-Cohn

The Christian County Colonels’ bid to extend their winning streak to four games came up just a little short Friday. Pearl-Cohn used a strong defensive effort in the third quarter to lead the way to a 65-52 win over the Colonels in their final game of the Overton Christmas Tournament.

The game was a tight battle through the first half. Christian County led 14-13 after the opening quarter. The two teams were tied going into the break at 24-24.

Coming out of the break, Pearl-Cohn’s defense limited the Christian County Colonels to just three field goals in the third quarter, two by Breland Morrison and one by Derrell Bateman, as Cohn took control of the game and ended up leading at the end of the third quarter 43-31.

The final quarter played out fairly even as Pearl-Cohn claimed the 13-point win.

Derrell Bateman was the only Colonel to reach double figures with 23 points. Breland Morrison added 9, while K.J. Vaughn had 8.

Doyel Cockrill topped the scoring list for Pearl-Cohn with 24 points.

Christian County drops to 6-7 with the loss. The Colonels are back in action Tuesday when they host Caldwell County.
