Lady Colonels Run Win Streak to 17 Over Lady Blazers

1-7-day

The Christian County/UHA girls’ basketball matchup may not have had the fanfare of past games, but Friday’s contest at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium featured both up-and-coming players and up-and-coming matchups in the district.

Christian County features freshman guard Anaysia Bagwell and sophomore forward NeVaeh Day, while UHA countered with sophomore guard Alecia Davis and sophomore forward Lee Lee Love.

No one disappointed.

The Lady Colonel tandem did enough to beat UHA 67-43 and remain undefeated in district play.

UHA and Christian County swapped the lead three times in the first quarter and two more in the second quarter.

The Lady Blazers took a 20-17 lead on a Davis bucket with 3:57 left in the half, but she would go to the bench with her third foul 17 seconds later.

The Lady Colonels responded with a 14-0 run with Bagwell and Day combining for 13 points.

Up 31-23 at halftime, the Colonels scored the first bucket of the half but a pair of free throws by Davis and a 3-pointer by Kennedy Quarles cut the deficit in half. UHA would get no closer.

Bagwell scored eight straight points as the Colonels pushed the lead to 57-37 with 6:05 left. She finished with a game-high 26 points along with six assists and five steals. Day’s monster stat sheet included 24 points, 18 rebounds, and three steals.

For UHA, Davis just missed a triple-double with 14 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists. Love battled foul trouble most of the night but still managed five points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Colonels took advantage of 27 UHA turnovers which they flipped into 23 points and outscored the Lady Blazers 46-20 in the paint.

The win was Christian County’s 17th straight against UHA dating back to the 2015 district championship.

The Lady Colonels will host Ohio County Saturday afternoon while UHA travels to Crittenden County.
