Friday night was one that Lyon County junior Brady Shoulders will always remember, but the host Livingston Central Cardinals would probably just as soon forget it after the Lyons powered their way to a 94-51 victory to remain perfect in 5th-District play.
The teams traded three-pointers over the first half of the opening quarter, with Livingston’s Will Orr knocking down his fourth to tie the game at 14-14.
However, the Lyons closed the frame on an 18-4 run to quiet the Livingston crowd and put the game away with only eight minutes played. Travis Perry and Shoulders led the Lyons with 11 points each, and Jack Reddick added seven.
Lyon County reached 60 points by halftime, using eight from Perry and seven from Shoulders to lead by 32 at the break. The only suspense remaining was when Shoulders would reach the 1,000-point mark for his career, but he would have to wait until the second half after finishing the first with 18 points.
Perry and Reddick combined for 20 points in the third, but it was a bucket off a goal tend that highlighted the quarter. After making one of two free throws earlier, Shoulders’ milestone came in somewhat anti-climatic fashion when his shot in the paint rolled off but was counted after a Livingston player pulled on the net while the ball was on the rim.
With a running clock in the fourth quarter, the Lyons couldn’t quite reach the century mark and settled for their fifth 90-plus-point game of the season.
Perry led all scorers with 30, followed by Shoulders and Reddick with 21 each.
The Lyons now turn their attention to a matchup with Kentucky commit Reed Sheppard and the North Laurel Jaguars at the Second Chance Shootout at Lexington Catholic on Saturday.
