After trailing throughout Saturday night’s matchup with visiting Dawson Springs, the Heritage Christian Academy girls made things interesting in the fourth quarter before falling to the Lady Panthers 48-35.

Bailey Craft and Hallie Zieg combined to account for all nine of the Lady Warriors’ first-quarter points, but Dawson Springs’ Abby Ward equaled that output to give the Lady Panthers a four-point edge after one.

Gracie Harper took over for Dawson Springs in the second with eight points, and the Lady Panthers went into halftime with a 30-17 advantage.

The Lady Warriors opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run and were within six points at 30-24 after Kate St. Martin’s corner three-pointer.  However, after an HCA technical foul, the Lady Panthers hit one of two free throws, and Macy Drennan followed with a three-pointer to build the lead back to double digits.

Another 7-0 spurt to start the fourth pulled the Lady Warriors back to within four at 36-32.  Bailey Craft scored the first four and St. Martin added a three, but Dawson Springs answered with a seven-point run of its own capped by another three-pointer from Drennon.

The Lady Warriors got back to within eight, but Dawson Springs did enough at the free-throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

Craft accounted for almost half of the Lady Warriors’ total with 17 points, and Zieg added 11.

Ward finished with 17 to lead Dawson Springs, followed by Drennan and Gracie Harper with 14 each.

Up next for HCA is a visit from St. Mary on January 13.  The Lady Warriors slipped to 1-4 against KHSAA teams.
