The question going into this week’s 2nd Region Girls All A Classic is whether or not anyone can stop the Crittenden County Lady Rockets from launching themselves toward Richmond at the end of the week. The tournament gets underway Monday night at three sites.

The semifinals will be played Thursday, with the finals set for Saturday at University Heights Academy.

Crittenden County appears to head into the tournament as a heavy favorite. The Lady Rockets are 10-3 and have won ten of their last twelve, with both of those losses coming to out-of-state teams. The Lady Rockets have faced four of the other six teams in the regional, picking up wins over Livingston Central, Lyon County, UHA, and Caldwell County, all of those wins coming by at least 18 points.

The Lady Rockets have not played Fort Campbell or Dawson Springs so far this season.

Crittenden County opens play Monday night, hosting Caldwell County at Rocket Arena. The Lady Rockets last won the All A regional title in 2021.

Speaking of the Caldwell County Lady Tigers, they might be one of the teams in the region looking to fill the dark horse role for this tournament. The Lady Tigers are just 4-9 on the season, but all four wins have come over teams in this tournament.

The Lady Tigers have two wins over Livingston Central, one over UHA, and one over Dawson Springs. Caldwell County did lose earlier to Crittenden County by 19 at the CAB.

Caldwell County last won a regional championship in 2010.

The defending 2nd Region All A champions, the Lyon County Lady Lyons, have had their struggles here early in the 2022-2023 season. The Lady Lyons enter the tournament at 4-10 and have losses to Crittenden County and Livingston Central. The Lady Lyons did knock off University Heights early in the season.

The Lady Lyons have won three of the last five All A Region championships, but need to find a way to get their offense rolling to make an ‘odd year’ trip to Richmond. The last three All A regional wins for the Lady Lyons have come in 2022, 2020, and 2018.

Livingston Central enters the tournament with the second-best record of the All A teams. The Lady Cardinals are 6-6 on the season. They are 3-3 against teams in the tournament. Livingston has lost twice to Caldwell County and once to Crittenden County. The Lady Cardinals have wins over Lyon County, Dawson Springs, and UHA.

Livingston Central’s last All A regional title came in 2016.

UHA stands at 2-11, with one of those wins coming against Dawson Springs.

Dawson Springs has four wins on the season, but none against teams in the tournament.

Fort Campbell has two wins, and like Dawson Springs, none are against teams in the tournament field.

In addition to the opening round game between Caldwell County and Crittenden County, Fort Campbell will travel to play UHA Monday. The two winners will meet in Thursday’s first semifinal.

Livingston Central hosts Dawson Springs Monday night in the other first-round contest. With Heritage Christian not participating, Lyon County gets an opening round bye and will play the winner of Livingston and Dawson in Thursday night’s second semifinal.

The championship contest is set for Saturday at 4pm at University Heights.
