Kentucky fan just wants the glory of Kentucky basketball back

So many University of Kentucky basketball fans are in despair over the way a team expected to contend for a national title is spiraling in downward and those fans are voicing their concerns on social media and radio sports call-in shows.

We had quite a few call WLAP Sunday Morning Sports Talk to share their feelings. But I thought we also needed to let our producer, Beau Robinson, a long-time UK fan of all sports, have a chance to express his feelings.

He’s a  passionate fan but also a logical fan. He does not over react to anything. What he said, was very powerful and I think spoke for the way a lot of fans probably feel.

That’s why I wanted to share everything Robinson said Sunday morning on our show:

“I am a Kentucky fan and will always be a Kentucky but where am I at right now with five losses after an embarrassing loss to Alabama?  I’m disappointed that Kentucky Basketball continues to lower the bar every season. Disappointed and numb to the losses and the results that pile on.

“The easy fix was one-and-done’s, the transfer portal … maybe all this goes beyond #1 recruiting classes. You have seen those numbers. I don’t know and I don’t have the answers. Every three games Kentucky might take a few steps forward, but then we are 10-20 steps back again and this gets beyond frustrating.

“I hear friends tell me that their day no longer revolves around Kentucky Basketball. It never used to be like that.  Kentucky Basketball used to be the hottest ticket in the state. It is no longer like that… empty seats are a telling story.

“I remember when Kentucky Basketball meant something to the Big Blue Nation from the top down to that young fan who dreams of coming to Rupp for their first game. Sadly this is all fading and it has been for some time now.

“I miss having a real Kentucky Basketball Coach and I’d like to have him back! It is not in my nature to give up on my team and I won’t but outside of championships and wins, my hope is that there is an understanding for a coach, an athletics department and players to understand the urgency and be able to take action to restore the glory of Kentucky Basketball.”

Say amen Big Blue fans.

  1. Been a big blue fan my entire life, 74 years old now and its hard to see how downhill this program has gotten. Last 4 or 5 years they have been really hard to watch, turn off a lot of the games early. I would love to see UK run and gun, and press full court, but for that to happen we will have to get a new coach, because Cal will not change. They used to be exciting to watch, now even in wins its a dull, slow game, no flow, the kind of game you play when you have inferior talent. it’s a shame.

  2. DJ Otis Beau Blues, my friend, I 100% agree. It’s not that BBN has given up, but that it’s not supposed to be like this. In my lifetime, it’s never been as uncomfortable following, watching and trying to be supportive of a UK roundball program.
No answers from here either, but the direction the program is heading HAS to change.

  3. Amen. My best friends father was on the 58’ Championship team. The Kentucky players were our heroes. We had haircuts to match our favorite players. I’m thankful I got to be part of the whole thing. UK Class of 80’

    1. now those were the days Garry with haircuts to match the players. I had kind of forgot those times
