Crittenden County’s didn’t give Caldwell County much time to settle in.

The Lady Rockets opened the game with a 19-2 run and went on to down the Lady Tigers 62-34 Monday night in a 2nd Region All A Classic quarterfinal round game in Marion.

Taylor Guess scored the first nine points of the night for Crittenden and had 11 during the big opening run.

Guess tallied 16 points and six rebounds after just 8 minutes and finished the night with 26 points and 16 rebounds — both game highs.

Caldwell did settle down some after the opening blitz and was within 32-19 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers threatened to make a game of it after halftime.

A putback by KeDarriah Thompson and a driving layup by Tink Clark cut the margin to nine at 32-23. Caldwell then had the ball again, but a 3-pointer that would have made it a six-point game missed the mark.

Guess countered with a bucket from in close at the other end. That started a 16-4 run to close the third period, putting Crittenden in command 48-27 entering the fourth quarter.

The final 28-point margin was the biggest difference of the night.

Besides the big game from Guess, Crittenden got 15 points and six rebounds from Elliot Evans along with nine points and 11 boards from Addie Hatfield.

Caldwell got 12 points from A.J. Hollowell. Clark finished with 10 points while Nyla Sykes had eight points and 11 rebounds.

It was the Lady Rockets’ second win over Caldwell this season.

Crittenden, now 11-3 this season — and 9-0 against 2nd Region foes, advances to Thursday’s semifinals and will face host University Heights Academy.

Caldwell, now 4-10, has added a game for later this week to its schedule. The Lady Tigers will now go to Calloway County on Friday.
