Blazers Dispatch Hopkins Central for 5th Straight Win

There was no hangover for the UHA Blazers from their All A regional championship Saturday night. The Blazers came out Monday night and limited the Hopkins Central Storm to just six made field goals in the first half as the Blazers rolled to a 78-51 win.

Lemar Northington and Quinton Quarles came out firing as the Blazers opened quickly. Northington and Quarles combined for 14 points in the first eight minutes of the game as UHA took a 20-9 lead. All nine Central points came on made 3-point shots.

The Blazer defense kept the pressure up on the Storm offense in the second quarter, limiting Hopkins Central to just 8 points on three made baskets, two of which were 3-pointers, as the lead grew to 35-17 at the half.

Things got no better for Hopkins Central as the second half got rolling. Trevonne Wallace erupted for a big third quarter for University Heights, scoring 14 points. The Blazer defense held Central to just six points in the quarter as UHA put the hammer down and extended the lead to 57-23.

The Blazers then idled it on out for the final 27 point margin.

Lemar Northington scored 19 to lead the way for the Blazers. Trevonne Wallace was the other player to reach double digits for University Heights with 16. Quinton Quarles just missed double figures with nine points.

Drake Skeen was the top scorer for Hopkins Central with 15 points. Devonyae Butcher added 13 points for the Storm.

UHA improves to 10-6 with their 5th straight win. The Blazers are set to host Madisonville-North Hopkins Friday night.
