
A second half defensive switch by Apollo helped them overcome a 12-point halftime deficit and beat Trigg County 62-53 in overtime Friday in the first-ever matchup between the schools.
Jhaden Vaughn returned from an ankle injury to score 10 of his team-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats built a 15-7 lead.
The Wildcats got a better scoring balance in the second as five different players scored to help extend their lead to 31-19.
But the Wildcats were limited to just five field goals over the final 20 minutes of the game as Apollo mounted its comeback.
The Eagles hit 10 three-pointers in the contest with seven coming after halftime as they outscored the Wildcats 30-18 in the second half.
Apollo hit 10-of-14 free throws in the overtime period and 18-of-27 for the game.
Zjhan Tutt led Apollo with 27 points helped by five 3-pointers.
In addition to Vaughn’s 20 points, Tutu Gude scored 11 points and Luke Washer added 10 points.
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday afternoon with a home contest with Carlisle County.
