Webster County led wire-to-wire and handed Trigg County a 63-43 loss Friday night at Wildcat Gym. The loss is the fifth straight for the Lady Wildcats – their longest such streak in two years.
Webster scored the first five points of the game and led 10-3 just three minutes into the contest.
Trigg cut the deficit to 13-10 on consecutive 3-pointers and a free throw by Audrey Alexander. Webster scored the next eight points, sparked by five points off the bench from Brooke Shepherd.
Trigg got as close as nine points, but Webster stretched its advantage to 48-22 with a 19-2 run over an 8:23 span of the second and third quarters.
The teams combined for 18 three-pointers – each team hitting nine. But Webster got up 17 more shots than Trigg and hit 10 more field goals. This was due in part to Webster scoring 24 points off 16 Trigg turnovers.
Webster County put four players into double-figures led by Katelyn Cates’ 14 points. Hannah Yates and Karsyn Cates each scored 12 points.
Olivia Noffsinger hit 4-of-8 shots behind the arc to finish with 15 points. Alexander scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
The game was the first between the schools in 10 years. Webster County leads the all-time series 19-2, including 16 straight wins dating back to 1986.
Trigg County will return home Monday to host University Heights Academy.
