Travis Perry Taking Aim at 4,000 Career Points

Only one other player in Kentucky high school basketball history has been there, and Lyon County’s Travis Perry is closing in on that elite territory. That territory is 4,000 career points.

All-time scoring leader ‘King’ Kelly Coleman is currently the only player to have reached that milestone in a high school career in the state. Coleman finished his career at Wayland High School with 4,337 points.

Lyon County junior Travis Perry is about to join that current one-man club. To date, Perry has 3,859 points as we close in on the final couple of weeks of the regular season, leaving him just 141 shy of 4,000 for his career.

Perry is currently averaging 30.5 points per game and, with that average, he would reach the 4,000 mark in the fifth game from now. If Mother Nature cooperates, that would put him on track to join the 4,000-point club during Lyon County’s game against Bracken County on February 11.

It is highly likely that Perry will get to 4,000 points in front of the home fans. After Friday night, the Lyons have six straight home games before wrapping up the regular season at Dawson Springs.

As for the all-time scoring mark, there is an outside shot it could happen this season, but it would take some doing. More than likely, it would happen very early in the 2023-2024 season. But it is ‘possible’ this year if some things fall perfectly into place.

With 8 regular season games left, if Perry hits his average, that would get him 244 points. Added to his current total, that would move him to 4,103.

If Lyon County gets two games in the district tournament, and Perry hits his average, there is 61 more points, which moves him then to 4164.

The Lyons would then need to repeat as 2nd Region champions, which would get them three more games. At his current average, there is another 91 points, which would then place him at 4255 headed to Rupp Arena and needing 82 points to tie Coleman.

So, as you can see, passing Coleman this season is possible, but it would take some doing.

One note, Perry has surpassed his average of 30.5 points a game nine times this season.
