
The Madisonville-North Hopkins guys and the Hopkins County Central girls own No. 1 seeds for the upcoming 7th District basketball tournaments.
The Maroons will go for their 14th straight championship when the district tourneys are played Feb. 20-24 at Hopkins County Central.
The girls will go first on Monday, Feb. 20, with two semifinal games.
Top seed Hopkins Central, which was a perfect 6-0 in the district during the regular season, will take on No. 4 Dawson Springs at 6:00.
No. 2 Madisonville faces No. 3 Caldwell County in the late game at 7:30.
Monday’s winners will play for the district title on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m.
The boys’ semifinals will be Tuesday, Feb. 21.
No. 1 Madisonville, which was 6-0 against district foes in the regular season, takes on No. 4 Dawson Springs at 6:00.
No. 2 Hopkins Central faces No. 3 Caldwell County at 7:30.
Caldwell and Dawson each went 1-5 in district play and split with each other. However, the Tigers won the second meeting, which serves as the tiebreaker in the 7th District.
The boys’ district championship game is set for Friday, Feb. 24, at 6:00 in Mortons Gap.
District champions and runners-up advance to regional play the following week.
The girls’ 2nd Region tourney will be held at Union County while the boys’ tourney will be at Madisonville-North Hopkins.
