Paducah Tilghman’s tenacity on the glass led to more shots and eventually more buckets as the Lady Tornado held off the Trigg County Lady Wildcats 68-62 Monday at Wildcat Gym.

Tilghman came into Monday’s contest averaging 36 rebounds a game. They pulled down 48 Monday, including 22 offensive rebounds that led to 22 more attempts than Trigg and 17 seconds chance points.

While the rebounds weren’t a surprise, Tilghman’s long-range game provided both a shock and the difference.

Tilghman had hit four or more 3-pointers in a game just three times this year. On Monday, they hit 6-of-23. Diamond Gray hit a pair of threes in the final two minutes of the first half to spark a 9-2 Tilghman run to end the first 16 minutes.

Tilghman hit three more from long range to cap a 20-2 run to give the Lady Tornado a 52-34 lead.

Down 17 in the fourth quarter, Trigg began chipping away at the Tilghman lead. Evonna Mcgee and Olivia Noffsinger hit 3-pointers to get the deficit into single digits with 1:21 left.

Tilghman couldn’t put the game away with a 6-for-15 showing at the free throw line in the final eight minutes.

Audrey Alexander nailed a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left to get Trigg to within five points, but they would get no closer.

Noffsinger hit five 3-pointers and finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. Alexander added 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Dasia Garland led Tilghman with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Gray added 15 points and seven boards.

Trigg County, looking for its first win over Tilghman since 1997, dropped to 9-16 and will close the regular season Friday at University Heights Academy.
