2-14-stewart

Monday marked the 100th meeting between Trigg County and Dawson Springs on the basketball court in the series that dates back to 1946. As in 71 of the previous 99 meetings, the Wildcats came out on top.

Trigg’s five starters scored in double figures to lead the Wildcats to an 84-62 win at Wildcat Gym.

The Wildcats hit 13 three-pointers to keep several Dawson Springs rallies at bay. Trigg hit six treys in the opening quarter to build a 27-14 lead.

They didn’t hit any in the second quarter as Dawson got to within 37-28 at halftime.

The Wildcats hit three more in the third quarter and built a 64-46 lead late in the frame. Dawson would get no closer than 14 points in the final quarter.

Trigg County shot 52-percent from the field and knocked down 20-of-34 shots inside the arc. Despite the 13 threes, Dawson Springs got up the same number of shots – 64—as Trigg. The Panthers grabbed 11 offensive rebounds and scored 11 second-chance points.

Landon Stewart led Trigg County with 25 points, matching a career-high. The junior guard is averaging 14 points a game since re-entering the starting lineup earlier this month.

Jhaden Vaughn (10 points, 10 rebounds) and Luke Washer (14 points, 14 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles for the Wildcats. For Vaughn, it was his 18th double-double this year, while Washer has eight.

Jaydon Plunkett knocked down four 3-pointers and led Dawson Springs with 20 points and eight rebounds. Rex Blue added a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
