Blazers Fall in OT in Regular Season Finale at Webster County

For the third time in the last eight games of the regular season, and second, in a row, the University Heights Academy Blazers had to go into overtime. Thursday night in Dixon, things would not end up going the Blazers’ way as they fell to the Webster County Trojans 51-47.

The Trojans get a measure of revenge against the Blazers after UHA won by 10 points back in December in the First United Bank Holiday Classic.

This time, the Blazers had the tables turned on them. UHA saw the Trojans rally from a nine-point halftime deficit to come back and force the extra period. UHA had limited the Trojans to eight points in the first and eight points in the second quarter on their way to a 25-16 lead.

The Trojans came charging back in the third quarter, outscoring the Blazers 20-11 to even the game at 36-36 going into the final eight minutes. Both teams struggled to score in the final quarter with the game going to overtime at 42-42.

The Trojan defense then limited the Blazers to a single field goal and three free throws in the overtime as Webster County would take the 51-47 win.

Included in their last eight games, UHA won in overtime Tuesday night at home against Paducah Tilghman. They lost in four overtimes to Owensboro Catholic in the quarterfinals of the All A Classic.

Lemar Northington and Quinton Quarles led the Blazers with 11 points each. Gavin Grubbs, Cam Brown, and Trevonne Wallace added six points each.

Evan Michalek led all scorers in the game, finishing the night with 20 points for Webster County, including going 4 of 4 at the line in overtime.

The Blazers end the regular season at 19-10. Webster County finishes at 16-11.

University Heights now gets ready for district tournament play as they will take on the Hopkinsville Tigers in an 8th District semifinal Monday night.

Webster County will host Union County in an elimination game in the 6th District Tuesday night.
