Warren Central has been ranked as the top boys’ basketball team in the state for most of the season. Friday night, the Dragons looked every bit the part as they handled the Christian County Colonels 72-49 in Bowling Green.
The Dragon defense held the Colonels to just four points in the opening quarter and it was an uphill struggle from there for Christian County. Warren Central led at the end of the quarter 18-4.
The Colonels battled the Dragons closely in the second quarter and were still in the game at the break, trailing 33-16. But Warren Central, who lost in last year’s title game of the Sweet 16, would quickly put an end to any hopes of a second-half rally for the Colonels.
Warren Central cranked up their offense in the third quarter and put the game away. The Dragons put 22 points on the board as they ran the lead out to 55-26 going into the final quarter.
Christian County had its best quarter of the night scoring 23 points in the fourth, but by that time, the deficit was a bit too much as the Dragons took the 23-point win.
The win was the 18th in a row for Warren Central.
Breland Morrison and Derrell Bateman scored 14 points each for Christian County.
Kade Unseld led the way for the Dragons with 20 points. Chappelle Whitney and Damarion Walkup added 11 points each.
Christian County finishes the regular season at 16-12. The Colonels open district tournament play Monday night when they take on Fort Campbell.
