Less than 24 hours after handling the Dawson Springs Lady Panthers on the Lady Panthers’ home court, the Lyon County Lady Lyons did it again, this time in Eddyville in the final game of the regular season. Lyon County knocked out the Lady Panthers early on their way to a 62-39 win.
This one was essentially over almost as soon as it started. The Lady Lyons hung 25 points on the board in the first eight minutes while allowing Dawson Springs just one field goal as Lyon County took a 25-2 first-quarter lead.
The Lyon County defense continued to control things in the second quarter. The Lady Lyons held Dawson Springs to just seven points in the quarter, all of them from Abby Ward, as the lead grew to 37-9 at the break.
The two teams played a bit more even in the third quarter. Still, the lead was essentially insurmountable as Lyon County held a 51-22 lead heading into the final quarter.
Dawson Springs heated up from the outside in the final quarter, knocking down five threes, but it was not nearly enough as the Lady Lyons rolled on out to the final 23-point margin. Abby Ward scored 14 in the final quarter for the Lady Panthers.
For the Lady Lyons, Trinity Taylor and Ella Defew led the attack with 16 points each. Lexi Holland also reached double figures with 11.
Dawson’s Abby Ward led all scorers in the game with 25 points.
With the win, Lyon County finishes the regular season at 12-15. The Lady Lyons will take on Crittenden County Monday night in the 5th District tournament.
Dawson Springs drops to 7-20. The Lady Panthers will take on Hopkins Central Monday night in the 7th District tournament.
