A 19-0 2nd-quarter Logan County run proved too much for the Todd County Central girls’ basketball team to overcome in a 66-52 13th-District tournament defeat in Elkton on Tuesday.

The Lady Rebels bowed out in the opening round for the fifth season in a row, ending the year with a 13-13 record,

After trailing 6-0 early, Todd Central took a 9-8 lead after four-straight points from Abby Williams.  Williams scored seven points in the first quarter, including a three-pointer with twenty seconds left for a 17-12 advantage.

The Lady Rebels led by a point with 6:38 to play in the half when Alexis Taylor went to the bench with her second foul.  Gracie Borders and Brenley Adler combined for 14 points to fuel a 19-0 run and put Logan County in control, up 36-18 with less than a minute left in the half.

The Lady Cougar lead hovered around 11 points for most of the third quarter before the Lady Rebels closed the frame on a 6-0 spurt.  Jamaya Kay blocked a three-pointer and went in for a layup, followed by a jumper from Ciara Collins and a Jamaia Burks layup to cut it to 46-39 with a quarter to play.

However, the Lady Rebels were outscored 9-2 to start the fourth and trailed by 14 after Adler connected on a three-pointer for the Lady Cougars with 4:13 left.

Burks twice trimmed the margin to 11, once on a three-point play and again on a three-pointer, but the Lady Rebels couldn’t get any closer.

Williams had 13 points to lead Todd Central, followed by Burks with 12.  The Lady Rebels were outscored by 11 points at the free-throw line.

Gracie Borders led all scorers with 22 and was joined in double figures for the Lady Cougars by Emily Borders and TaKyiah Mason with 11 each and Adler with ten.
