Former Caldwell County standout Derrin Boyd has been named the ASUN Conference Newcomer of the Week after helping Lipscomb win a pair of conference road games last week.
It’s the first career Newcomer of the Week honor for Boyd, a sophomore guard who spent the last three years at Georgetown College before transferring to Lipscomb.
Boyd averaged 15 points a contest as the Bisons won a pair of games in Florida to finish the regular season — beating Florida Gulf Coast 73-64 and Stetson 98-91 in overtime.
Boyd had 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal on Wednesday at FGCU.
He tallied 20 points, six boards and two steals in Friday’s overtime win against Stetson.
Boyd helped Lipscomb reach 19 regular-season victories for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Boyd is second on the team in scoring at 10.3 points a game.
The quarterfinals of the ASUN Conference Tournament will be a rematch of the regular-season finale.
No. 4-seeded Stetson will host No. 5 Lipscomb Tuesday night.
At Caldwell, Boyd finished fourth on the Tigers’ career scoring list with 1,911 points. He is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 628 boards.
