
A rally in the bottom of the 7th inning by McLean County Saturday sends the Christian County Colonels into to the start of the 2023 baseball season off a tie in their final preseason scrimmage. The Cougars plated three runs to end the contest at 3-3.
The Cougars scored the three runs off two singles, a walk, a Christian County error, and a two-run sacrifice bunt with two outs.
Up until the final inning, Christian County pitching had dominated the day. The Colonels gave up just two hits over the first six innings of the game. Preston Phan got the start and pitched two innings, giving up one hit and striking out one. Hayden Hunt went two innings, giving up one hit and striking out two.
Sebastian Dazey pitched two innings of no-hit ball, striking out one and walking one. Carter Sholar was tagged with three runs, but only one of them was earned.
Christian County scored two runs in the third and one in the fifth. The Colonels were able to generate just three hits against McLean pitching. Carter Sholar and Gage Montes each had a double. Hayden Hunt finished the game 1 for 2.
Christian County will open the season Monday afternoon hosting the Bowling Green Purples.
