After a shutout defeat to open the softball season on Monday, the Lyon County Lady Lyons got their bats going late in Tuesday’s game at Union County, but it was too little too late in a 14-4 loss to the Bravettes.

Leading 1-0 on Sydney Thomas’ 1st-inning RBI single, Union County blew the game open in the 3rd.  Audrey Staley and Miley Mosley each singled in runs with the bases loaded, and the Lady Braves tacked on two more runs for an 8-0 advantage.

Lilly Perry worked the first three innings in the circle for the Lady Lyons, allowing eight runs, five earned, on six hits with three walks.  Destiny Casey went the rest of the way, yielding six runs, only two earned, on five hits.  Lyon County didn’t do itself any favors with five errors committed.

The Lady Lyons posted four runs in the 5th inning, with the first coming in on a Bravette error. Then, Lauren Davis doubled in a run, and Courtney Collins and Perry followed with RBI singles to cut the deficit to seven.

However, Union County answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to end the game.  Thomas doubled to drive in her second run of the game before Bryleigh Walsh brought home the final two with a single.

Peyton Jenkins went the distance in the circle to earn the win for the Bravettes.  She allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

Lyon County was outhit 11-6, with Collins the only Lady Lyon with two hits.  Thomas, Staley, Walsh, and Mosley each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Union County attack.

The Bravettes evened their record at 1-1 ahead of a visit from Owensboro Catholic on Thursday.

The Lady Lyons will host Massac County, IL and Caldwell County in a doubleheader on Saturday.
