The Trigg County Wildcats bookended Friday’s game at Graves County with big innings, including a 7th-inning rally that fell just short in a 10-9 defeat to the Eagles.

The Wildcats lost for the first time after starting the season with a pair of wins, while Graves County won its first game after two defeats.

Trigg jumped all over Graves County starter Landon Curd, scoring five runs and chasing Curd with only one out in the first inning.  An Eagle error allowed the first run, and Kaiden McCormick doubled the advantage with a sacrifice fly.  After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Trevor Terrell crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Hunter Reynolds followed with an RBI double.

However, the Eagles used their own five-run 2nd to surge in front, highlighted by RBI singles by Curd and Hayden Thompson.  Coby Mullins and Hayden Alexander both singled in runs during a three-run 4th inning, and Cole Katzman’s RBI triple made it 10-5 when Trigg County came to bat in the top of the 7th.

After coming on for Curd in the first inning, Gage Munsell held Trigg without a hit through five scoreless innings, but the Wildcats finally got to him in the 7th.

A walk and a Jacob Hunter double set the stage for Matthew Leeper’s RBI single, and Munsell exited after hitting two straight batters.  Aidon Butts singled to push a run across, and another came in on a ground out to cut it to 10-9.

But with runners in scoring position, the Wildcats couldn’t come through with the crucial hit, and the game ended with a strikeout.

Munsell earned the win, allowing four earned runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts through five and two-thirds innings.  Mullins and Katzman each drove in two runs, and Alexander was two for three at the plate.

Aaron Despain took the loss for Trigg, giving up six runs, five earned, on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts through three frames.
