Ben Goodaker tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven, and Caldwell County scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to upend Trigg County 5-2 on Monday at the VFW Ballpark in Princeton.

Trigg (2-2) got both of its base hits in the top of the third inning while grabbing a 2-0 lead.

Hunter Reynolds and Mathew Leeper each had singles during the frame while Jacob Hunter got down a suicide squeeze bunt for the game’s first run. The second run came in when Chase Hampton hit into a fielder’s choice at second.

Caldwell (2-2) got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Luke Parker walked with one out, stole second, then came around on two wild pitches to make it 2-1.

Another walk led to Caldwell’s second run in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Channing Puckett drew the base on balls to start the frame. He later came in on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2.

Caldwell was held to just two base hits through five innings, but put together three straight hits in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead.

A walk by Cole Slone was followed by a double off the fence in left field by Jamus Carneyhan. Ari Wells followed with a grounder up the middle through a drawn-in infield, plating two runs and putting the Tigers up 4-2.

Collin Whittington then doubled with one out and later came in on a wild pitch to make it 5-2.

Trigg put two runners on base in the top of the seventh to get the potential tying run to the plate. However, Goodaker struck out the next batter to finish a complete-game performance on the mound.

Goodaker (2-0) walked three while allowing one earned run.

Aidon Butts (1-1) suffered the loss in relief of starter Mathew Leeper. Leeper pitched well, allowing one earned run on two hits through four innings. Butts gave up two earned runs on three hits in the final two innings.

Slone was the only hitter in the game with more than one base hit, going 2-for-2 and scoring a run.

Caldwell has now taken eight straight from Trigg going back to the 2015 season.

The Tigers will host 7th District foe Dawson Springs on Tuesday at the VFW Ballpark.

The Wildcats will visit Fort Campbell on Tuesday.
