Leeper’s One-Hitter Leads Trigg to District Win

3-28-leeper

Matthew Leeper fired a one-hitter as Trigg County opened its district baseball slate with a 10-0 win over Livingston Central Tuesday at the Trigg Complex.

The senior hurler scuffled at times, walking five and loading the bases in the second inning with one out before striking out the last two batters to escape unscathed.

Leeper struck out 10 and allowed only a fifth-inning single by Aiden Hale.

The district win saw the Wildcats put together one of their most complete games of the season. The Wildcats rapped out nine hits, drew ten walks, and only committed one error in the field.

Eight Wildcats had hits, with three coming in a five-run first inning. Chase Hampton doubled home Leeper, who opened with a walk. Hampton stole third and scored when the throw went into left field.

Aidon Butts had an RBI double and two more runs scored on ground outs.

Trigg added two runs in the third inning on a single by Jacob Hunter and a double by Leeper.

Hunter Reynolds plated a run in the fourth inning with a single, and the Wildcats rounded out the scoring with a pair of bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Leeper, Butts, and Hampton each had doubles for Trigg County, and Trevor Terrell stole three of Trigg’s six bags in the contest.

Trigg County evened its season record at 3-3 and will look to move to 2-0 in district play Thursday with a trip to Crittenden County.
