The Lyon County Lady Lyons put an end to their five-game losing streak to open the season with an impressive effort Thursday night. Piper Cotham drove in Lauren Davis with a ground out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lady Lyons walked off Calloway County for a 6-5 win over the Lady Lakers.
It was the first win for the Lady Lyons and handed Calloway County just their second loss of the season, the other coming to state championship contender McCracken County.
Davis had led off the bottom of the seventh and then advanced to third on two passed balls, setting up Cotham’s game-winning RBI.
Both teams had scored in the first inning of the game, with the Lady Lakers leading 2-1 after one.
The Lady Lyons turned back threats in the second, third, fourth, and fifth inning, to stay in the game with the score hung on 2-1.

Lyon County (1-5) looked to take control of the game in the bottom of the 5th as they scored four runs with two outs to take a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning. The Lady Lyons took advantage of a bases-loaded walk, a Calloway County error, and a single from Lilly Perry in the inning.
The Lady Lakers (4-2) strung together four hits with two outs in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4 and then tied the game on a one-out single from Sophie Lax.
Lilly Perry had a big game for the Lady Lyons, going 3-3 with two RBIs. Lauren Davis finished 2-4 with two runs scored. Olivia Moore went 2-3.
In the circle, Lilly Perry went all seven innings, giving up five runs, just three of them earned, on 11 hits, striking out four and walking one.
