Trigg County’s Tember Oliver made a single run stand up on Thursday to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over 5th-District rivals Crittenden County.

Oliver dominated in the circle, scattering three hits with a walk and eight strikeouts over seven shutout innings.  The Lady Wildcats won for the third time in four tries to even their record at 4-4.

Elliot Evans was the hard-luck loser for the Lady Rockets, allowing only four hits over five scoreless innings with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Lady Wildcats pushed across the game’s only run in their last at-bat, beginning with a one-out double by Oliver.  Gracelynne Turner replaced Oiver on the base paths, and advanced to third on a passed ball.  With two outs and a 2-2 count, Turner crossed the plate on a wild pitch to give Trigg the only run it would need.

An error brought the winning run to the plate for Crittenden with two away in the bottom of the 7th, but Oliver struck out the Lady Rockets’ Jaycee Champion to end the game.

Up next for the Lady Wildcats is another district tilt at Livingston Central on Friday.  The Lady Cardinals have won the last five matchups in the series, including a mercy-rule victory in last season’s district tournament.

Crittenden slipped to 4-4, 0-1 in district play, with four games coming up over the weekend at the Softball Coaches Association Tournament in Clarksville.
