Trigg County’s Aaron Despain was near untouchable on the mound on Thursday, going the distance in a 9-1 victory over 5th-District rivals Crittenden County.
The Wildcats moved to 2-0 in district play, outscoring Livingston Central and the Rockets by a combined score of 19-1. After dropping five straight against Crittenden, Trigg claimed its second win in a row in the series.
Haydon Reynolds’ two-run double put the Wildcats up in the 1st, and he came home on a passed ball for a 3-0 advantage.
The only blemish on Despain’s performance came in the bottom of the 1st when a runner that reached on an error came home on a ground out.
Hunter Reynolds doubled in a pair of runs in the 4th, and an RBI single by Jacob Hunter and a two-run double by Matthew Leeper put Trigg in front 8-1.
Leeper’s RBI double in the 6th, capping a three-hit night, put the finishing touch on the victory. Despain allowed a single hit with two walks and 12 strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.
Jeremiah Foster suffered the loss for the Rockets, surrendering nine runs, seven earned, on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts over five innings.
