Caldwell County’s seventh-inning rally fell just short as Webster County held on for a 5-4 victory Thursday in softball action in Princeton.
Down 5-3 going to its final at bat, Caldwell got an RBI double from Alicia Stanley to pull within a single run.
A Presley McKinney single put runners on the corners with one out.
However, a strikeout and a fly ball to right ended the game.
Chloe Papineau was the winning pitcher for Webster, which is still unbeaten this season at 6-0.
Papineau struck out nine, walked one and allowed just one earned run on 10 hits in seven innings.
Offensively, Papineau homered, went 2-for-3 and scored three times. Mallory Leath went 2-for-3 and drove in three while Jadeyn Jackson was also 2-for-3.
Harper Holeman was 2-for-3 with a double while McKinney finished 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Lady Tigers, who outhit Webster 10-6.
Caldwell is now 5-3.
