After an intense loss to University Heights Academy Sunday that saw its coach get ejected, the Christian County Colonels flipped the script Thursday and defeated the Blazers 10-0 at Simmons Field.

Gage Montes was strong on the mound for the Colonels and helped himself at the plate with a double and three RBI. Montes was efficient on the mound, needing just 85 pitches to hurl a complete-game five-hit shutout. He struck out nine and didn’t walk any.

The Colonels pieced together second inning singles by Aiden Lewis, Preston Phan, Brylle Javier, and Bobby Irving to plate a pair of runs.

Christian County broke the game open with a six-run third inning. Ten Colonels went to the plate with Blake Boehman driving in two runs with a sharp single to left field and Montes clearing the bases with a long double to left.

The Colonels flirted with ending the game early via the mercy rule but couldn’t get the key hit when needed, stranding five over the final three innings and getting a runner nailed at the plate.

Lewis, Phan, and Elijah Underhill each had two hits in the Colonel box score with Davis and Boehman each driving in two runs.

Josh Pace had two of UHA’s four hits – all singles. Five Blazers took the bump with Aiden Jones the most effective, pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Jackson Flynn struck out three Colonels in two innings of work.

Christian County (5-6) is scheduled to play a pair of games at Warren East Saturday. They will play the host Raiders at noon and Hillard Darby, Ohio at 2:30.

UHA (6-2) suffered its first loss to a region foe and will play at Logan County Saturday at noon.
