Nelson County Hands Hopkinsville 4th Straight Florida Loss

Nelson County came back from a two-run deficit to upend the Hopkinsville Tigers 4-3 Thursday afternoon at the Fort Walton Beach Bash. The Cardinals scored two runs in the fourth and two runs in the bottom of the fifth and then held off the Tigers the rest of the day.

Hopkinsville had taken an early 2-0 lead in the contest. The Tigers scored a run off a Nelson County error in the top of the second to go up 1-0. The lead grew to 2-0 when Lucas Kaetzel drove in Zach Moss with a single in the top of the third.

The Cardinals used a couple of walks and a couple of base hits to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

Chase Fort gave Hopkinsville the lead back briefly in the top of the fifth when he singled and drove in Zach Moss to make the score 3-2.

Nelson County lead off the bottom half of the fifth with a double. The Tigers nearly got out of the inning, however, Ethan Rogers drove one over the right field fence with two outs to put Nelson County up 4-3.

Hopkinsville (3-8) went down quietly over the final two innings as the Cardinals claimed the win.

Lucas Kaetzel was 2-4 with an RBI for Hopkinsville. Gavin Powell finished 2-4. Chase Fort was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Zach Moss was 0-2 but did score two runs for the Tigers.

On the mound, Andrew Mayes had a no-decision as the starting pitcher. He went four innings, giving up three runs on five hits, striking out three and walking four.
