Trigg County saw its Wednesday games in Memphis canceled due to the stormy weather that passed through western Tennessee. Thursday morning, the team toured Graceland, but unlike Elvis, they found the hits hard to come by that night in a 3-1 loss to Ripley High.
The Wildcats had just four hits – two of those doubles by Mac McCormick and Jacob Hunter. Trigg scored its lone run in the seventh inning when A.J. Bell, running for McCormick, scored on a steal of home.
Ripley used three singles and a sacrifice fly to score two runs in the first inning. They added a run in the fifth on a double, stolen base, and Trigg throwing error.
Aaron DeSpain didn’t pitch badly for the Wildcats. He scattered eight hits over six innings and struck out five. All three runs he allowed were earned.
Trigg (5-4) is back at it Friday with a doubleheader at Trenton Peabody High School. On Tuesday, they will play at Webster County in the Class 2A Sectionals.
