Since a loss to UHA on March 26, the Christian County Colonels have been on a four-game winning run while outscoring their opponents 38-5 and getting revenge on the Blazers with a 10-0 victory.

But a trip south of the state line on Friday to play in the Donnie Everett Classic put an end to the streak with a loss to hosts Rossview and a narrow defeat at the hands of top-ranked Houston High School.

It was all Rossview in the opener, beginning with a five-run 1st inning.  After adding a pair of runs in the 2nd, the Hawks pushed 14 more across in the next two frames to finish off the Colonels.

Christian County showed some life in the 4th, using singles by Carter Sholar and Preston Phan and taking advantage of a pair of Rossview errors to score four runs.  Sholar was the lone Colonel with two hits, and Aiden Lewis and Edward Davis drove in runs.

Gage Montes took the loss on the mound, allowing 13 earned runs on 12 hits with three walks and three strikeouts in three innings.

For the Hawks, Cannon Rice got the win after going three and two-thirds and giving up four runs, one earned, on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Christian Lattimore drove in four runs, Carson Kean was four for four with three RBI, Scott Dean finished three for four with two runs driven in, Landon Shaw had two hits with two RBI, and Brodie Prairie had three RBI.

Tennessee’s top-ranked team awaited in the second matchup, but with Elijah Underhill on the mound, the Colonels looked confident from the start.

Christian County led 5-0 midway through the 3rd, but it could have been even more after ending the the 2nd with the bases loaded and stranding a runner on second in the 3rd.

Sholar’s ground out in the 1st brought in the first run, before Underhill doubled and a pair of walks loaded the bases in the 3rd.  Lewis drew a walk to push a run across, and back-to-back runs come across on wild pitches.  Blake Boehman added the fifth on a sacrifice fly, but that would be the last time the Colonels crossed the plate.

Underhill cruised through the first two frames before allowing a pair of runs in the 3rd.  Another run followed in the 4th, and after Ryan Mitchell led off the 5th with home run, Underhill exited with the bases loaded and no outs.

Lewis came on in relief for the Colonels and limited the damage, with runs coming in on an error and a sacrifice fly to put Houston in front for good at 6-5.

Lewis didn’t allow a hit over two innings with a single walk and two strikeouts.  He was also joined Underhill with a pair of hits and drove in a run.

Underhill took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on three hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Hudson Wages got the win for Houston, working four and a third shutout innings with a walk, a strikeout, and four hits.

Christian County slipped to 7-8 ahead of a visit from Marshall County on Tuesday.
