Fort Campbell got one of its best pitching days of the year but couldn’t match it at the plate in a 6-2 loss to West Creek of Clarksville Saturday afternoon on post.

With Falcon Coach Alberto Gonzalez keeping his hurlers on pitch counts ahead of Monday’s All-A Classic region opener, Aidan Blaszkowski, Ethan Egner, and Jayden Swann each saw about two innings of work.

The trio combined to allow just five hits and struck out nine over their seven innings of work. Two of the runs allowed were unearned.

With runners at first and second in a scoreless game in the top of the third, Fort Campbell appeared to escape the threat with an infield pop-up. However, a strong crosswind from right field blew the ball fair and out of reach of the Falcon infielder. Consecutive hit batters gave West Creek a 2-0 lead.

West Creek added three runs in the fourth inning. Braden Canaan doubled home a run and smart baserunning by the Coyotes saw them plate two runners on one wild pitch.

Fort Campbell got on the board in the sixth inning when Egner singled ahead of a Swann double. In the seventh, Adam Harrington singled and came around to score on a West Creek error and a wild pitch.

The Falcons were held to just three hits and were walked just four times. Canaan threw five innings of hitless baseball to get the win for the Coyotes as he struck out nine.

Fort Campbell (2-9) will play Livingston Central Monday in the All A Classic region tournament. Fort Campbell’s last win over Livingston Central on the diamond came 20 years to the day of Monday’s matchup in Smithland.
